How the Grinch Stole Christmas

We read How the Grinch Stole Christmas and came up with adjectives to describe the Grinch at the beginning of the story.  Students worked really hard to come up with ways to make the Grinch smile.

Non-Fiction

We have been reading a lot of non-fiction texts.  The students have enjoyed learning animal facts.  We studied and learned about the life cycle of both frogs and ladybugs!

Look at Those Pilgrims

We read lots of pilgrim and Thanksgiving books!

Scholastic also has a wonderful online field trip.  We watched some of the videos together to realize what life was really like for the pilgrims and Native Americans.

Thankful Turkeys

Each student wrote what they were thankful for on the turkey feathers!

Animal Fridays

Every Friday we learn facts and details about a new animal.  So far we have learned about:

African Elephants

 Lions

Giraffes

Sloths

Hippos

We just find it animazing to learn all new information!

Amazing Artists

We were lucky enough to have two students' artwork on display this month.  Although only 2 could go on the wall, I know all of my students tried very hard on their projects.  They should be very proud of themselves.

Thank You Veterans

We learned about veterans and what they do for our country by reading our Scholastic News.  We also made a flag with the other first grade classes to honor all veterans.  Thank you to all who are serving or have served.

Happy Halloween

We had a fantastic, fun-filled Halloween party in room 30!
We made creepy spiders and played Halloween bingo.  Mrs. Lynott stirred up a delicious brew and had students guess slimy body parts.

Carving a Pumpkin

Students voted on the design of the pumpkin.  Ms. Lahey did the carving and students helped pull out the seeds.  It was a fun activity!

We also designed our own jack-o-lanterns and described them on our writing assignment.
