Amazing Artists

We were lucky enough to have two students' artwork on display this month.  Although only 2 could go on the wall, I know all of my students tried very hard on their projects.  They should be very proud of themselves.

Thank You Veterans

We learned about veterans and what they do for our country by reading our Scholastic News.  We also made a flag with the other first grade classes to honor all veterans.  Thank you to all who are serving or have served.

Happy Halloween

We had a fantastic, fun-filled Halloween party in room 30!
We made creepy spiders and played Halloween bingo.  Mrs. Lynott stirred up a delicious brew and had students guess slimy body parts.

Carving a Pumpkin

Students voted on the design of the pumpkin.  Ms. Lahey did the carving and students helped pull out the seeds.  It was a fun activity!

We also designed our own jack-o-lanterns and described them on our writing assignment.

In Other News…
We had a fabulous Halloween-pictures to come shortly.
Special thanks to all parents-who donated money, prepared their child for the day, or came into help-everyone made the day a success.

*As a teacher we are always on the lookout for things that would usually get thrown away- if you have old books or board games lying around that don’t get used anymore, please feel free to use my room as a “dumping ground”J

Reading
We have started unit 2!  We will be reading a lot of fiction and non-fiction books in this unit.  This, of course, means identifying story structure, main idea and details and comparing and contrasting.  We continue with “fun Friday” learning about animals, which they all have been enjoying.

Math
Unit 3 here we come!  Everyone did a fantastic job on their unit 2 shapes test.  The students loved using the hands on manipulatives and shapes.  Our little mathematicians are now working on addition, subtraction and number sense.

Phonics
We continue working in small groups, practicing our diagraphs and blends.  We have some amazing readers in here!
