Making 20

My smart students worked together to show how many ways they could represent the number 20.  I was very impressed by how well they did coming up with different ideas.  They used tally marks, pictures, addition and subtraction sentences, and much more.

Healthy Food Assembly

One of Hillcrest's fantastic mothers, and nutritionist ran a pronominal assembly today about the 5 food groups and healthy eating.  The students really enjoyed learning about food and creating their own "5 food group wrap".

Reading
We have started unit 2 in reading.  Unit 2 focuses on non-fiction texts.  We will be practicing a lot of asking and answering questions, identifying main idea and details, and determining text features.  Students continue to work hard on reading comprehension and fluency in small groups.  Continue working on those sight word practices.
Math
We have completed unit 2 with flying colors and are moving onto unit 3.  This unit consists of problem solving strategies and solving word problems.  I look forward to watching students use manipulatives and trying different methods to solve problems.

Pumpkins!

We learned a lot about pumpkins today!  Especially that they come in all different colors.

Then we voted on how to carve our classroom jack-o-lantern.  The students helped me scoop out the inside.

Our finished product.
Students designed their own jack-o-lanterns and wrote why theirs was the best.
