On another note....

Some new additions to the room:

New reading trackers for the students to use.
New reading tent in our book nook.

Congrats to Seattle on their Super Bowl win.

Ms. Lahey's sister playing hockey at her high school.

After this cold winter we all need a little of this!

Measuring Around the Room

Students worked with partners to measure different objects around the room using our inch tiles.  They recorded their findings on a worksheet.  They enjoyed being able to walk around and pick different things to measure.

Great Horned Owl

We read a classic winter book, Owl Moon.  After reading and sequencing our story, we learned about great horned owl facts.  Students created their own owl and wrote several facts on it.

Happy New Year

Students worked hard to come up with a positive and achievable New Year’s resolution.

Reading
We have new reading materials from McGraw Hill Wonders.  Feel free to go online and check it out!  The students are really enjoying the new texts.  I think the materials are both engaging and enriching for our shared and guided reading times.
Math
We continue to work on measurement.  Students have been using a combination and standard and non-standard units to measure items around the room.  We will soon be working on fractions and time.
Reminders
If your child’s dismissal procedure changes at all, please remember to email or write a note.  I have to send students home according to their original schedule unless otherwise noted.
We are still trying to get out as much as we can with all this bad weather.  Please send your child to school with a coat, hat and gloves.  ONE extra stuffed animal or toy can be brought in for recess.  Some of the students are coming in with several toys and don’t have enough room in their book bags for everything.
