Dr. Seuss' Birthday/ Read Across America

I wish we had more time to learn about Dr. Seuss and his amazing books.  I squeezed in a few fun activities, even with all the snow days.

100th Day Celebrations!

I can't believe how fast time flies.  My first graders have come such a long way in just 100 days!

The students wrote and drew about what they would look like and be like when they are 100.

Students also counted out 100 snacks!

Measuring Munchkins

Students measured different fish.  Depending on how long the fish were, we could either "keep them" or "throw them back in".

Healthy Breakfast Assembly

We had a great time learning about the 5 food groups and how to eat them all for a breakfast meal.

Upcoming Days

Maryland Day- 25th

Reminders:

We will hopefully start getting outside more for recess (sneakers for outside please).

Please send in coats/gloves and hats when weather is chilly.

Phonics

Students are working hard on long vowels and digraphs.  Our spelling lists focus on the different spellings for long vowel sounds.

Reading

We will be moving on from unit 3: Change Over Time to unit 4: Animals.  I know the students will enjoy reading nonfiction texts about interesting animals.  We will be focusing on main idea and details as well as analyzing an author’s message.

Math

My mathematicians continue to work on missing addends in a number sentence.  We will be moving onto missing addends in a word problem.  I look forward to seeing their creative responses to questions.
