The Apple Doesn't Fall Far....

Like Parent....Like Child

It is American Education Week!  The children compared and contrasted themselves to their parents for homework. Students then brought in their parent's first grade pictures.

Veteran's Day Love

A Special Thank You To All Our Veterans

We learned about Veteran's, and what this special day means by watching "The Wall".  It is a wonderful book about the Vietnam Memorial wall.

Mrs. Reitz's son-in-law is overseas right now.  We wrote friendly letters to him, practicing both rough drafts and final copies.  The letters will be mailed out soon.

In other news...

Ms. Lahey's college football team is on a roll!

As most of you know, Ms. Lahey is from Albany, New York.  Fortunately, Albany was not hit too hard by hurricane Sandy, but a lot of my friends and family were effected by the horrible storm.  If you hear of ways to help, I'm sure everyone up north would greatly appreciate it:)

Bats Bonanza

We spent the week reading fiction and non-fiction books about bats.
Non Fiction
We identified new learning about bats while reading "Bats Night Fliers".  Then, students were able to write 3 facts about bats.  Finally they assembled their own bat.

Non-fiction literacy through Scholastic News: Students read about different nocturnal animals.

Fiction:
We sequenced "Stellaluna" (one of my favorite books) by identifying the beginning, middle and end of the story.
We sure feel batastic about these misunderstood creatues of the night!
